Art and culture
Enjoy visual arts, theatre, music, dance and comedy at any number of the city's cultural venues. Preston Guild Hall and Charter Theatre, The Playhouse Theatre, Harris Museum and Art Gallery, Museum of Lancashire, and The National Football Museum are all close by.
Outdoors
Two thirds of Preston is given over to open spaces, with no less than ten public parks and gardens. Moor Park, the largest and oldest, is just under a mile away. But, if that's not enough, then take advantage of hundreds of miles of public footpaths, cycleways and bridleways in and around the city, with direct routes along Ribbleway and the Lancaster Canal. Lake Windermere is 54.1 miles away and Hebden Bridge in the Pennines is just 37.6 miles from The Linen Buildings.
Sports and leisure
Keep in shape at one of the city's public leisure centres or choose from a number of private health clubs. State-of-the-art sports facilities can also be found at Preston Sports Arena which has a cycling track, floodlit tennis courts, all weather pitches and more. Golf enthusiasts can choose between five local courses or enjoy Open-standard facilities at Royal Lytham and St Annes and St Annes Old Links which are both a short journey by car.
Entertainment
A multiscreen cinema, indoor bowling, go-karting and indoor climbing provide plenty of activity in the city. And if that doesn't tire you out, have a go at paintballing, quad biking or laser quest. That's sure to do the trick!
Food and drink
Award-winning restaurants and lively cafe bars spill out onto the streets during the summer months making Preston a truly cosmopolitan city. Don't miss Bar Censsa, Mood, Browns Cafe Bar, Chophouse, and The Bistro French, which are all within one mile.
Shopping
Preston is a shopaholic's paradise with quality independent retailers standing side-by-side major high-street stores. As well as the usual suspects, such as Debenhams and Marks and Spencer, Preston has a wonderful collection of specialist outlets. Take a wander down Fishergate and Friargate for boutiques, antiques and other specialist purchases. Alternatively, there are four out of town retail parks. The largest is Deepdale in the North of the city centre.
Education
A full range of schools and colleges are easily accessible from the city centre, from nursery to higher education as well as private and independent schools. The University of Lancashire in Preston takes in around 25,000 students each year.
